Lecturers of Accounting from FEB UNY Held a Financial Literacy Training for Children in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A team of lecturers from the Department of Accounting Education, Faculty of Economics and Business, Yogyakarta State University (UNY), carried out an international community service activity by organizing financial literacy training for children in Kuala Lumpur. The event, held at a local learning center, aimed to equip the younger generation with basic financial management skills from an early age. Targeting dozens of students, this training is expected to provide a strong foundation for building financial awareness in children for their future.

The community service team, led by Mahendra Adhi Nugroho, Ph.D., along with two other lecturers, Dr. Dhyah Setyorini and Agatha Saputri, M.Pd., focused on the importance of introducing financial literacy to children. They viewed Kuala Lumpur as a strategic city, given its status as one of Southeast Asia's largest economic hubs, with a significant Indonesian population. The program was initiated with an interactive approach designed to make learning about finance more accessible and engaging for children.

During the training, participants were invited to engage in simple simulations, such as savings games using Indonesian currency, which helped them grasp basic money management principles. The children enthusiastically participated in each activity, and parents responded positively to the program. Many felt the training was highly beneficial in equipping their children with relevant skills for the future.

The UNY lecturers' team hopes this activity will not only impact students in Kuala Lumpur but also serve as a first step towards fostering collaboration with the Indonesian community in Malaysia, with broader content and target audiences in the future.

Through this training, UNY continues its efforts to strengthen its contribution to global community service, expand access to education, and provide tangible benefits to the international community.
